Ford is the only one that had the Inertia switch. Chevy did not use them. You need to check fuel pump relay and fuel pump fuse.
For a 1996 silverado, there is no fuse between the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump. There is 2 connectors, one just outside the tank and one inside the tank connecting to the fuel pump itself that could be your problem if the fuel pump is good.

On a 2001 Toyota Sequoia, the fuel pump is located on top of the fuel tank. The fuel pump is powered by the EFI fuse and EFI relay.
A fuel pressure test will help determine the condition of the fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator provided the fuel pump electrical circuit, fuse and relay check okay.
You will have to remove the fuel pump relay or the fuse for the fuel pump. You did not say what year it was, so I can't tell you where it is. SORRY.
