On a 1988 Ford F-150, the fuel tank selector valve is typically located underneath the truck, mounted on the frame, near the fuel tanks. It is positioned between the two fuel tanks and the fuel lines that lead to the engine. You'll need to look under the vehicle, just in front of the rear axle, to find it. Be sure to take proper safety precautions when working around fuel systems.

The fuel tank selector valve on a 1993 Ford F150 with a 4.9L engine is on the left side frame rail under the driver side floor pan forward of the side fuel tank in-line on the fuel lines.
