Bolted on the very bottom of the engine. It is the large pan with lots of bolts around the edge holding it on. I will have one drain plug.
The approximate cost to change an oil pan gasket, on your Ford Taurus, is $125. The oil pan gasket can be purchased for $10.
You must remove the oil pan.

Under the car on back side of the motor over the oil pan. Probally on the driver side.
Remove oil pan and locate pump un bolt and replace with new one make sure you have a new oil pan gasket to replace it when your done.

You are going to have to remove that oil pan again. You have either installed it incorrectly or left a tool in it. There is very little clearance in there and if it is not correctly installed the rod ends are going to strike the oil pan creting the knock you are talking about.
