If it is a EHM engine it is in the oil filter/cooler assembly. Gotta love model year breaks.
The sending unit is next to the oil filter. Not sure of the wrench size but it is very easy to do by simply unscrewing the old one and screwing the new one in. About a 20 minute job
On a 5.7 V8 engine, the oil pressure sending unit is on the back of the engine block next to the distributor.
Its on the right rear side of engine just above a support bracket/brace for transmission to engine.
Need to hook up a oil pressure gauge in the place were the oil sending unit is on the engine and see what the gauge reads, You should have no less then 20 LBS. at a idle. If it does not have oil pressure then pump is bad.
Yes the pump and fuel sending unit are the same for the 15 gal and 20 gallon setup
If the wiring and connections at the coolant temp sending unit check okay start with replacing the coolant temp sending unit. Temp sending unit should be less than $20.
answer- Get a chiltons manual, {about 20 bucks at the parts store}. It has a step by step procedure for replacing the sending unit. You have to remove the rear seat to gain access to the sending unit which is located on top of the fuel tank.
I had this very problem in my '97 Jimmy 4.3L V-6. The oil sending unit was cracked. It seems they'll crack or break and although not much oil escapes , the oil pressure remains low. On my truck the oil sending unit screws into the back of the distributor in a VERY tight space , but with a ratchet and a deep-well socket is reachable if you take the distributor cap off first. The part only costs around 20 bucks. If you can do it yourself or know a shade tree mechanic that will do it for you , it shouldn't cost you too much to have it replaced. Good luck!
