on a 97 Mustang, it is near the firewall on the passenger side of the vehicle. Everything is in line, so if you start at the back of the throttle body, and follow that vacuum line you will find the Purge Flow Sensor, then the Purge Flow Solenoid, then through the Pass inner fender to the Canister. To get to the Canister, you need to remove the plastic inner fender well. Also, you can tell the difference between the solenoid and the sensor by their size and makeup. The sensor is plastic and smaller, the solenoid is metal possible with a rubber trim piece around it and much larger.

Most likely it is the vehicle speed sensor which is located on your tranny!
