what do you mean by "back up" if you mean your reverse light, they come on automatically when you put it into reverse, if they dont turn on then there is a problem somewhere whether its dead bulbs or a short. If you mean your safety/driving lights it depends, if its a 91-97 SC1/2 then you just turn the headlight knob on the left side of the wheel to the first or second position the third turn on the headlights. If i misunderstood the use of "back up light switch" please let me know as to give you a correct answer.

the back up light switch is located in the gear shifter console
switch is on the transmission
I was told by my parts guy that the back up light switch is the same as the reverse light switch.
The back up light switch is stuck closed or broken.
On a 1989 C1500, the back up light switch is located on the driver's side of the transmission. It is just behind the area that is bolted to the motor.
bad fuse , bad electrical connection to or bad switch ( back up light switch on manual transmission / neutral safety switch on automatic transmission also acts as backup light switch )
Reverse light switch failure
The switch is on the front end of the transmission on the top. When you put the car in reverse a part inside the transmission pushed the back up light switch. It screws into the transmission - you can get to it with the car jacked up high enough.
It is shared with the Back-up light switch. Towards the front of vehicle on the transmissions. There are 3 in a row, it is the middle one i believe. If you unplug it, the back-up light will not come on.

It's part of the neutral safety switch on the front of the transmission.
