On the butt.
I found it myself. It is a S&W model 1905 third change double action revolver. Manufactured between 1903 and 1917.
Check the butt.
Without the serial number provided(This can be found on the inside of the crane)I can only say that the Smith and Wesson model 39-2 was made from 1970-1982.If you have the letter A ahead of the serial number then this was started in the year 1970.
If you can ID the Model we might be able to tell you something about it. I have a .32 cal Smith & Wesson Revolver - 6 shot with the serial number 41374 stamped on the bottom of the handle. It was found, of all places, in a storage unit I used to rent. It seems pretty old...very nice patina. I know nothing of the history for it though. the owners of the storage facility couldn't tell me anything. So it sits in my collection.
There are over 100 different S&W revolvers, but only a few are 32 caliber with 6 chambers. A complete list of all the markings and where they are found on the gun would help determine which model you have.
Need more information. Solid frame or top break, and the complete serial number is generally found under the left grip panel.
You must provide the sn or call S&W with it. The Smith and Wesson model 19 3rd change(19-3) was made by Smith and Wesson from 1967-1976.The serial number should be found if you swing the cylinder out and look at the yoke just below the barrel.
To answer the question we'll need to know more about this pistol. Is it a revolver or a semiauto? What model and caliber? I found a Colt frontier scout .22 with that serial number made in 1962.
Not a valid serial number. Please list all markings found on the gun so we can properly identify it.
Open the cylinder, it should be located near hinge.
If you are asking about the location of the serial number of the Colt commando revolver, it can be found by opening the cylinder and looking at the crane or frame at the swivel. It would be in two places back to back.
I found a Colt army special with that serial number being made about 1916.Don.t know the value though it would depend on it's condition.
