There isnt a serial number,usually just the model number you see.
Made by Mossberg, and labeled with the Western Auto Revelation brand, your rifle is a Model 640K. If it has no serial number, it was made between 1959 and 1967. Rifles made in 1968 and later were required to have serial numbers. The model went out of production in 1985.

The serial number on a Winchester model 53 is on the bottom of the receiver, just behind the foregrip stock.
THAT NUMBER LOOKS LIKE A SERIAL NUMBER NOT A MODEL NUMBER. IF IT IS LOCATED UNDER THE STOCK JUST BEHIND THE TRIGGER GUARD IT IS A SERIAL OR PRODUCTION NUMBER NOT A MODEL NUMBER.
Earlier model, 1887, of which I have one, serial number is located inside back. Mine has hinged back, and model number is stamped in the wood, on the left.
In order to determine the year model for Johnson or Evinrude outboards, the model number, rather than the serial number is needed. The model number is located on the tag, or sticker that bears the serial number.
The serial number on a Glenfield model 20 is located on the left side right behind the barrel on the outside of the breech.
