On the rear axle on top of the diff, its the speed sensor for the ABS system.

The speed sensor for the speedo is on the transmission near the rear of the transmission kind of on top. It's visible from the passenger side. ^^^^^^^^^^ There are also 4 speed sensors for the VSC (Vehicle Stability Control). 2 (1 left and 1 right) are located on the front steering knuckles (just behind brake rotors) secured with a 5mm socket head bolt. The other 2 are located behind the each rear brake rotors secured by a 6mm (10mm wrench size) nut. All 4 being near the 12 o'clock position, but towards the front of the vehicle. Please note if you have had a dead battery or have had battery disconnected without a 12v power source to vehicle it can cause the various Electronic Control systems to throw multiple DTC (Diagonistic Trouble Codes). Also if any Emission Control device throws a DTC (even something as simple as a loose gas cap). The VSC and ABS are disabled. (That's straight from Toyota Factory manual).
