The starter on a 1999 Mercury Mystique is located on the lower side of the engine, near the transmission. Specifically, it can be found on the driver's side, mounted to the engine block. Accessing it may require removing some components, such as the air intake or battery, for better visibility and reach.
Answer - 4 Cylinder EngineThe starter is located under the intake manifold. You can get to it from under the vehicle.
Usually on the lower end of the engine follow the + battery cable to the solenoid and then to the starter
get a mechanic to do it...seriously... its not worth the aggravation...
Follow the + battery cable should connect to relay
I have a 1998 Mercury Mystique and just the other day, my starter started to die. I am guessing that your starter is in the same place as mine, which is why you can not find it. Open the hood, and standing on the drivers side of the car, look down on the side of the engine. (through all the hoses.) You will see the solenoid, and then under that is where the starter is. It is a tough job to get to it if you do not know what you are doing.
Where is the starter located on a 1997 mercury sable ,and if any display a photo of the part.
Remove - battery cable Raise and support vehicle if needed Disconnect wiring at top of starter Remove starter mounting bolts Remove starter
Not much-half an hr plus starter (45.00 approx) This is easy enough to do yourself. Most are 2 bolts.
If the starter spins but won't engage, then the Bendix is not engaging the flywheel. Remove the starter and test to see if the Bendix thrusts out, and check to see that the flywheel does not have chipped teeth.
First remove the neg batt cable. Then remove the wires from the starter, take out the bolts holding the starter and work it out amongst the exhaust. GoodluckJoe Yea, Right.... Wouldn't that be wonderful? I suspect the first answer relates to a 4 cylinder Contour/Mystique! See "Related Questions" below for more of the grisly details on a v6 DOHC starter
