This isn't really an official answer as I'm just speculating, but I think industries might adjust the viscosity of liquids they use to adjust the rate of flow through a system to alter the results.

∙ 15y agoPancake and Molasses. Pour molasses on your pancakes. Then put some molasses in a cup and heat it in the microwave and watch how much faster it flows. The heat changes the viscosity of the molasses. When you pour oil into your car or lawn mower, it flows slower than when you pour the Gas into the gas tank.
