Any meteor showers are best seen from dark sky areas, away from city lights and away from rivers or lakes.

You will see more meteors in the pre-dawn hours from about 2AM to dawn than from sunset to midnight. This is because the sunrise terminator - the line between dark and light at sunrise - is the "leading edge" of the Earth as the Earth orbits the Sun, while the sunSET terminator - the line of evening - is the trailing edge of the Earth. And just as you see more bugs on the windshield than on the back window, you will see more meteors on the "front" edge of the Earth than on the "back" side.

The Quadrantid meteor shower normally peaks around January 3.
