Were boy slaves crucified in ancient Rome?

Boy slaves had no special rights under roman law. They were quite simply the property of a roman master and as such subject to crucifixion if the penalty merited it. The most likely occurrence of crucifixion of boy slaves was at the mass execution of the slave house hold of Pedanius secundus. Pedanius was a slave master who lived during the reign of Nero. Pedanius was murdered by one of the household slaves and a debate occurred in the Roman law courts about the required penalty. After three days it was decided that all slaves of the household be crucified according to Roman law. Over 400 slaves were hanged naked and writhing on the cross in the vicinity of the Secundus villa. Under Roman law there was no concession for age, sex or modesty when it came to crucifying slaves. Other slaves were ordered to observe the Pedanius Secundus. crucifixions as a warning of what was in store for them should they dare to commit any crime meriting crucifixion. A good percentage of the crucified slaves were boys due to the fact that life was short in ancient times. Particularly for slaves. A young boy of 13 or 14 would have been expected to do a mans work and as such was subject to a slaves death if proscribed. On finishing one has to note that crucifixion as a penalty in ancient Rome was designed to be totally shameful and obscene. In recent times, due to religious propaganda and indoctrination, artists commissioned by the church usually painted crucifixion scenes with the crucifees wearing a loincloth. It is highly unlikely that such a concession would be granted considering the obscene (by design) nature of such a death. Slaves of all ages were crucified naked. Ropes, nails or both were used. A peg known as a sedile was often wedged up under the crotch to take some weight and allow the slave to die slowly. The sedile could be modified to impale slowly and the legs could be nailed in a wide open position. After the Spartacus rebellion, 6000 slaves were crucified along the Appian way as a warning to others. Among them would have been boy slaves. This was the true nature of Roman crucifixion and any slave of any sex or age could have the penalty imposed.
