The first separation of uranium isotopes was in 1942 in USA - electromagnetic separation (the installation was named calutron).
When it comes to heavy elements that are used in weapons and in reactors, uranium and plutonium are both candidates. The first atomic bombs were made of uranium, and they are now pretty much made of plutonium. Some special nuclear reactors are powered by plutonium fuel, but most reactors for power generation use (enriched) uranium for fuel. The fissile fuel in the first 3 bombs was:Plutonium, Trinity test, July 16, 1945Uranium, Hiroshima attack, August 6, 1945Plutonium, Nagasaki attack, August 9, 1945Trinity test Gadget: Plutonium. First atomic bomb detonation.Hiroshima Little Boy: 80% enriched Uranium. First atomic bomb used in combat.Take your pick.
There was a race that involved US, UK, and Canada during World War II; they wanted to build an atomic bomb in fear that Nazi Germany would create them first. This project was called the Manhattan Project (1942 to 1946), the project was under the command of Major General Leslie R. Groves Jr. of the US Army Corps of Engineers. Einstein, Szilard, Fermi, and President Roosevlet were main people involved in this project.
No single person created the atomic bomb. A large number of people needed to work together on different parts of the total project to produce a workable theory and then a functional bomb. Physically the first atomic bombs were created by the Manhattan Project, based in the USA during World War 2 and staffed principally by US and British scientists..
235 was used to produce one of the first atomic weapons. 238 is much harder to start a nuclear chain reaction than 235. 238 is used in nuclear weapons, but not as the first stage.
The Manhattan Project was the code name for the WWII project to build the first Nuclear Weapon, the Atomic Bomb.
"Manhattan Project"- APEX :)
Los Alamos was the location for part of the Manhattan Project, which was the code name for the creation of the first nuclear bombs. Uranium enrichment was mainly done at Los Alamos.
Manhattan experiment project produced the first atomic bombs in the course of World War II.
The Manhattan Project was the secret project to design and build the world's first atomic bomb.
America was in debt during the Manhattan project. The Manhattan project was led by the United States and produced the first atomic bombs during World War II.
The Manhattan Project resulted in the US creating the first nuclear bomb, which was the cause for Japan to surrender.
