Specifically, a wall painting has been found in Turkey, at Çatalhöyük. It has been dated to about 7,000 years before the Christian era. It shows houses beneath an erupting, twin-peaked volcano, which has been identified as most likely Hasan Dağ or Melendiz Dağ.

But that most likely was not the first time ever that a volcano erupted. For example, Alaska's Fourpeaked Mountain volcano is thought to have erupted about 8,000 years before the Christian era.

Additionally, if Atlantis existed, then a volcanic eruption may have helped sink it into the ocean about 9,600 years before the Christian era. Our source of information on Atlantis is Plato. Canada: 3.5 to 2.8 billion years

Rhodesia (Zimbabwe): 3.4 billion years

South Africa: 3.3 billion years

West Australia: 2.8 billion years

West Australia: 3.1 billion years

so the oldest volcanic rock seems to be 3.4 billion years old, and in Rhodesia
