Archimedes (287-212 BC) is from Ancient Greece. He lived in Syracuse, a city-state and province on the island of Sicily (he died during its conquest by Rome). He discovered that water is displaced by the volume of what is added to it.
The scientist was Archimedes, who was asked to determine the amount of gold in a crown that had been made for his King. According to the legend, he was sitting in his bath when he realized that he could work out the density of the material (and therefore its purity) by measuring the volume of water it displaced. He was said to have leapt out of his bath naked shouting 'Eureka', which is Greek for 'I have found it'.
*To determine whether the king's crown was pure gold or not, he would measure its volume and its weight and compare this to an equal quantity of pure gold. (Density = mass/volume.) The density of gold is 19.6g/ml and any alloy would be less dense.
Because in the 18th Century a Frenchman went up in a hot air balloon! Would have to research more to tell you the details - but for a short time I worked at the CIS and found out - I think there was a plaque somewhere along the street.
There are a number of things that the fathers of confederation did. They brought provinces together and worked out various democratic ways of governing these territories in various conferences.
They were expected to look after the household, make sure the servants did things right and that everything ran smoothly. Many also worked on farms, in businesses, or as cheap labor for work-places. Some were midwives, servants or landladies.
During the period of time from 1880 until 1900, a women were primarily housewives. However, those who worked outside the home worked in the service industry and held clerical jobs.
They kept their families together, worked at different factories making bullets and airplanes (stuff like that), they did metal drives, had to work through food rations and still kept their families happy, and they helped put together kits for soldiers in the trenches.

No newton was a scientist that worked alone
He worked in Europe.
There were many thousands of people that worked on the project in various locations. The scientist in charge was Robert Oppenheimer.
