sleeping. it was at night, so everyone was asleep. including joseph.
First, Joseph's father gave him a coat of many colours, a tribal symbol of inheritance. Then, Joseph told his brothers a dream of rule and dominion, in which Joseph stood supreme as ruler, symbolised by a sheaf of wheat, and is paid homage by his self-abasing brothers, symbolised by their sheafs of wheat. It is an unbrotherly dream that, even more than the coat of many colours, denies the brothers their equal place in the house of Israel. That the story of this dream originated long afterwards in an entirely different environment is evidenced by the symbolism of the sheafs of wheat, which would not only have been foreign to the pastoralist brothers, but probably even meaningless to them. Then Joseph dreamed yet another dream and he recounted it to his brothers, "Look, I have dreamed yet another dream, and look, the sun and the moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me." There were eleven brothers, so it is clear that the story is about Joseph's father, mother and brothers bowing down to him, which his father clearly saw in his response (Genesis 37:10). The author is building up justification of such hatred that the brothers would wish to sell Joseph into slavery. And this is what they did, moving the story forward into Egypt.
Joseph gets his coat in the first act of the play, at the end of the song "Jacob and sons" and is followed by the song "Josephs Coat."
There are several Josephs mentioned in the Bible. The first was one of 12 sons of Jacob (Israel). He was sold into slavery by 10 of his brothers, and became a ruler in Egypt. His story is found in Genesis. The other was a descendant of King David, and became the earthly father of Jesus.
There is no biblical texts which I am aware of, that identify the first meeting of Joseph and Mary. You will find Josephs account written in the early chapters of Matthew and Mary's account written in the early chapters of the book of Luke.
I asked this question, realised how ambiguous it is because both Josephs' father is Jacob, then did some research and I will now answer it. Jacob's son Joseph (the first Joseph) is the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac. The Joseph that married Mary (the second Joseph) is the son of Jacob, the son of Matthan. No, they are not the same.

He wanted to get a divorce which was allowed by Jewish law, but an angel came to him in a dream and the divorce was never done.
Because of a disagreeable stepmother, Joseph Lafayette Meek traveled first to Missouri where he joined two of his brothers. He was among the first Americans to travel overland to California, accompanying Joseph Walker.
No. They are different persons, separated by at least 18 centuries. The first Joseph was the son of the patriarch Jacob. He (the first Joseph) was betrayed by his older brothers. One of those brothers was Judah. The Joseph of the New Testament was at least the 38th grandson of Judah, the brother of the first Joseph.
