Cleopatra did not actually seek help from Julius Caesar. In fact she probably didn't want to even meet him as there was a massive debt that Egypt owed Caesar which was incurred from her father. However she saw an opportunity, took advantage of it, and it worked.

The senators were worried his power was getting out of hand and would Rome would become a monarchy again (they were afraid Julius Caesar would become king).
