Hi. I'm no expert, but I have a '96 850 and my brake lights quit working. I removed the dash panel under the steering wheel ( it had three torx screws ) and you can see the switch in there. It is at the top of the metal arm above the foot pedal. Mine is black with a white button that rests against the metal arm. I cleaned mine up with some electrical connection spray cleaner and it's working for now, anyway. Good luck.
