I hiked the whole thing all 24 miles from north to south rim. One of the best things i ever did. It is one of those things that separates u from all the losers around the world. The best way to see it is to take a hike couple miles down, couple up. Experience it. Come back another year, do more.
Perhaps not the very best, but certainly the most popular is from the South Rim at the Grand Canyon Village. Some would even insist that it is at sunrise from the El Tovar Hotel. Others claim that looking skyward from the floor of the Canyon at daybreak is their choice.
Grand Canyon
The South Rim at Grand Canyon Village is probably the most accessible and visited.

The Grand Canyon is a "gorge" or "canyon" if you wish. Hence the name Grand Canyon. However, there are two "plateau's" on either side of the canyon which could be considered part of the GC, from a certain point of view.
The grand Canyon is the best to draw
there is only one to admire the view.
The Skywalk is used to give those visiting the site a better view of the Grand Canyon. It is made of glass so visitors can view below as well as above and on the sides.

Nature at its best.
In my opinion the best way to get to the Grand Canyon from the midwest is to drive. The country is abundant with beautiful scenery. Our government has a website section dedicated to visiting the Grand Canyon. www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit
