Tea for the Tillerman
This gorgeous tune was recorded (and very effectively) by Cat Stevens many years ago, but he did not write it. It is from the old Shaker Hymnal. It is in the public domain.
No, the hit version of this song was by Harry Chapin. It was a hit in 1974, and since then, various people have recorded it, but I don't believe Cat Stevens was one of them. (Harry Chapin did sound a bit like Cat Stevens though.)
Cat Stevens released his hit song "Peace Train" in 1971 the same year he released his album "Teaser and the Firecat". The song wasn't a #1 hit but did make it to #7.

Tea for the Tillerman
Tea for the Tillerman is an album by Cat Stevens. The album was released in 1970 and featured many of his popular songs such as Wild World and Father and Son.
Cat Stevens wrote the lyrics for 'Cat in the Cradle', Harry Chapin cut it on the Verites and Balderdash album. It went gold in 1974 and was Chapins only hit. I'm told Stevens never cut CITC, but I think that's wrong. I believe I have the vinyl but I can't get to it right now.
