All Gods or Goddesses preserve the universe, whether it is Shiva, Vishnu, or the Mother Goddess, Durga. But most hindus worship Vishnu (they are known as Vaishnavas and make the majority of hindus) and consider him to be the preserver God.

Vishnu is known as Preserver in Hindu Religion. Hindus worship Trideva (Three Gods); Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshswor.

Brahma is the creator of everything which is in the universe.

Vishnu preserves Brahma's Creation for a time being.

And Maheshwor destroys the creation so that it can be created again.

This way the universe becomes constantly changing and cycle of nature continues.
