The information below this answer is very old and before the slim PS3 was released. The best PS3 for the money is one you can purchase that is new still in production and carries a full warranty. The 320 GB PS3 has a game and twice the harddrive at $299.96 which is only $50 more than the PS3 160 GB model. All other PS3s models must be purchased used or refurbished or from old store stock. There are original new in block 60 GB PS3s that are collectible items offered for sale. Used PS3s that can play PS2 games have often been repaired and sometimes the repair is known to be temporary although it will always work when received. That is because the fix is remelting and overheating causes the problem to come back. Some used machines have been banned from PSN and you will not be able to join the Playstation Network
20gb and 60gb ps3 can play ps2 and ps1 games?
The 80gb ps3 doesn't play all ps2 games.
I would recommend you buy the 60gb because it has more memory.
I downloaded like 40 songs off my mp3 and it took almost 40gb of system memory. So if you like movies you can play them on a ps3 60gb!
If you a big fan of buying music cd's you can play them on the 60gb ps3.
On the 60gb ps3 where you insert your ps3 disk it also has chrome.
On the slim models it is made out of plastic.
If you bought a ps3 and you are a big fan of playing ps1 games.
Sorry to tell you but every ps3 made plays ps1 games.
I think that the newest ps3 model will be able to play ps1 games.
I can't answer that question fully until it came out.
The newest ps3 model the (slim) can play ps1 games.
It can also play DVDs and cd's.
So this a great system.
If you have a lot of money and you want to buy a 60gb ps3 new it is possible just go to www.ebay.com.
If you run out of space on your 60gb ps3 model put in a flashdrive and transfer all your files to your flashdrive.
If you have a new hard-drive with a lot more memory insert it on the left side of the ps3.
The ps3's that are backwards compatible have 4 usb ports instead of 2.
If your ps3 has 2 usb ports it won't work.
Just to prove you it won't work I will tell you what it says.
This model of the ps3 software isn't compatible with play station 2 software.
This add-on on the play station store about ps2 system data won't work.
I downloaded that add-on off psn (Play Station Network) and I puted a ps2 game disk in my ps3 and it didn't work?
That add-on will only work for the 20gb 60gb and 80gb version.
Any version that has more than 80gb of memory isn't backwards compatible.
PS3 is better, PS2 is cheaper. You can get a USED PS2 complete system including games on Ebay for the cost of a new game or controller for the PS3.
ps3 or? :] If your deciding between the ps3 or ps2 I say ps2!
and i say ps3(:
80gb, but you can upgrade them easily. Like mine i upgraded it for 950gb for the MONSTER amount of movies and the months of music i have. Its basically my home entertainment system. The 60 GB or the 320 GB would be the best PS3 GB model. The 80 GB model can not play the PS2 games as well as a 60 GB PS3 because it uses a partially software based emulation.
If you have a older model of the PS3, yes. If you have a newer model, no. If was too expensive for Sony to have PS3s compatible with PS2 discs.
The model number can tell which PS3 you have. If it does not have 4 USB ports it is not 1st or 2nd Generation. The related link Model Comparison will provide more information on individual models
The Slim PS3 not available in less than 120 GB and all PS3 have the capability of online play. One of the first PS3 a 20 GB model just did not have built in WiFi, but you could use an Ethernet cable or buy the 60 GB model with WiFi.
No it will not work on the 4 USB port Backward Compatible PS3 models. The PS2 game will not play on any PS3 model
the ps3 slimeline
Buying the 320 GB model can be made at the best price savings when combined with the PS3 Move Bundle for a total Price of $399.99. That gives you a PS3 eye camera and a Move game for only the additional cost of a PS3 move controller.
by the model number and not all PS3 80GB have the same model
It is a certain model number of a ps3.
A new white model is not expected for the PS3
PS3 take standard laptop harddrives. The PS3 harddrive must be configured for the model that it is used with and then it would work if you wanted to switch. It was $95 for me to purchase a 1 TB harddrive and a Detroit area Best Buy wants $90 to install it in my PS3 320 GB model. Any PS3 would be able to use my 320 GB harddrive or the new one I purchased
The best PS3 out right now is the slim.

The best PS3 out would be the 160 GB. It's the largest PS3 out as of right now.
