The Three Musketeers is a work of fiction by Alexandre Dumas. The screenplay of the films was written by George MacDonald Fraser, who died recently. I'd recommend you read 'Quartered Safe Out Here' which are his recollections of war in WW2, a nice book. Dumas writing is very heavily detailed, his powers of description are very intense, and I am sure based upon the truth, as he saw it at the time, at least.
John Hancock - actor - died on 1992-10-12.
Gloria Foster
1/3 of the Musketeers. The friend of the Three Musketeers (but not one of them) in the book by Dumas. d'Artagnan was one of The Three Musketeers, and was a fictional character created by Alexandre Dumas. He is loosely based on a real person - Charles de Batz-Castelmore, Comte d'Artagnan. Charles de Batz-Castelmore, Comte d'Artagnan (c. 1611-1673) served Louis XIV as captain of musketeers and died at the Siege of Maastricht in the Franco-Dutch War
