Valium, Halcion, to name a few. In fact, however, I don't know if there is one that inhibits REM. Having said that, certain drugs have different effects depending on the user. But if you haven't already, I would definitely experiment with your doctor's approval ones that work for you.
There may also be an undiscovered, underlying cause for your absent or lack of REM which would be better diagnosed and treated by a psychiatrist or neuroligist. Hope this helps.

none. Benzodiazepines decrease slow wave (stage 3 and 4) sleep and only mildly suppress REM sleep. however, no benzodiazepines increase REM sleep. A piece of non-medical, anecdotal evidence to the contrary: I use the Zeo sleep clock to track my REM, deep and light sleep in minutes every night as I have pretty bad insomnia. After days of very little REM (under an hour) I took one xanax .25mg at bedtime, then another at 3:00a.m.-same dosage- and got 1 hour, 56 minutes of REM sleep. I haven't repeated b/c I don't want to become dependent, and it could have just alleviated anxiety and allowed me to catch up on a REM deficit. But it certainly didn't seem to suppress REM either.
REM sleep is amazing sleep!

3/13/2012 jhh: REM sleep is NOT deep sleep. In fact, it is the lightest stage of sleep. In order from awake to deep sleep: AWAKE, REM, LIGHT, DEEP. Deep sleep and REM sleep are the most important stages though. Light sleep doesn't do much for you. Deep replenishes your body, while REM replenishes your mind. Older answer (not accurate): Yes. It is the deeper form of sleep that we experience during our sleep cycle, rem sleep is where dreaming occurs But not the deepest sleep, which would be delta. That's where, unless your a mother and hear your baby cry, you are oblivious to your environment.
