How many members of Congress voted to go to war with Iraq?

That's a trick question. The answer has to be zero, because there was never a Declaration of War put forth to vote on, in order for Congress to vote to go to war with Iraq. Congress only voted on the idea. The United Nations said it was authorized to allow that action. By what authority, I have no idea. There is no war in Iraq, we the United States with the deceptive practices of our so-called leaders invaded Iraq. Big difference between a war and an invasion. War requires a Declaration of War voted and passed by Congress with 2/3 the majority. If this is a war, please by all means show me the signed Declaration of War passed by the members of Congress. Otherwise, we invaded a country under the premise of lies. Impeachment of the Bush Administration would be a good start to some house cleaning. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LIke all political nincompoops, the above responder refuses to deal in facts. The overall vote from a combination of house and senate was an overwhelming 373-156, to allow Bush to take military action (regardless of whether or not it was a formal declaration of war) against Iraq.

Where did Bush get the money for the war in Iraq?

Clinton's surplus. The congress approved and funded the spending. Including the Democrats.

Why is voting on the Iraq War such a big deal in American politics?

The way the various candidates voted on the Iraq War is important to a large number of Americans because they fault the current crisis in Iraq and the American lives lost on that vote and its follow-through. A vote in favor of the Iraq War signals a callousness as regards American and Iraqi lives under this rubric.

How many members of congress voted to invade Iraq?

374

How many democrats have ever killed a president?

There have been four presidential assassins. Booth, the man who killed Lincoln was still fighting the Civil War against the North. He was surely not a Republican and if he voted, he would have voted against Lincoln. The Democrats were split over slavery but those who supported slavery were mostly Democrats, so he may have considered himself a democrat. The three other assassins were clearly not democrats.

What major issue did President Obama and the Democrats majority face after the 2008 Election?

How is it possible to support the troops in Iraq while calling for them to be returned home without accomplishing their objectives?

beside political standpoint you would support your brother and sisterIt's not, but - -A loss in Iraq would be a win for the Democrats, but they must lose the war without losing the voters' support. Politicians and other public figures who oppose the war say this because their jobs depend on support from the citizens who have sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, fathers and mothers, and friends serving in Iraq or Afganistan. If they don't support "the troops" they will lose a lot of these voters, viewers, or fans. Some of these people may be honestly anti-war, but many have political reasons to lose (or at least not win) "Bush's War". Most people will forget how many Democrats voted to go to Iraq but will remember (because liberals keep telling them) that Bush and his Republican friends started the war for personal reasons.

Did President Bush have the Congress' approval to declare war on Iraq?

No. Similar to many other conflicts in US history, Congress passed an Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF), which allows the President to deploy troops into a combat situation without calling it a war.

How do Republicans and Democrats differ on their views of the US government's 700-billion-dollar bailout?

Among the congressmen, there doesn't seem to be any clear line that either party follows. 65 republicans voted yes, 133 voted no. 140 democrats voted yes, 95 voted no. So, there is no clear attitude, but as you can tell from the voting, the democrats in Congress are generally a bit more positive on the bailout.
