I'd go with a Labrador, as Cockers can be very hyper and some have a bad habit of biting :( Labs are much sweeter and are very obedient :)

Every Cocker I have been around has been very temperamental and the one I currently have to deal with is very aggressive, even with his owner of 8 years that has owned him since he was a puppy.
