Valves.

There are four in the heart and the rest of the valves are dispersed throughout the body. They function as muscles around the blood vessel contract to move the blood.

What prevents the back flow of blood inside heart during contraction?

The valves in the veins

What prevents back flow of fecal material?

The ileocecal valve prevents the back flow of fecal material from the colon to the small intestine. The ileocecal valve is positioned at the far end of the small intestine.

What structure prevents blood from backing up?

In the heart/arteries, the Aortic valve prevents blood from flowing backwards. In the systemic veins, eustachean valves prevent the backwards flow of blood.

What regulates the flow of blood to the heart?

veins are responsible for bringing blood back to the heart.

What prevents the back flow of blood in the heart?

bicuspid (between left ventricle and atrium) and tricuspid (between right ventricle and atrium) are the 2 valves that prevent the backward flow of blood from the ventricles into the atria. There are two semi-lunar valves also prevent the backward flow of blood from arota to the left ventricle (Aortic valve) and from the Pulmonary Artery to the right ventricle (the Pulmonary valve). The valves at the top of the heart are the semi lunar vavles. These stop back flow from the pulmonary artire and pulmonary vein (to and from the lungs) The valves that stop back flow in the heart from the atruims to the ventricls are the tricuspid valve (on the right) and the bicuspid valve (on the left) (be carful here, because while the tricuspid valve is a universal term, bicuspid is not used in the USA, it is called something else whic escapes me at the moment) the valve that stops blood coming back into the heart from the aorta (main artery going to body) is the aortic valve and the the valve that stops back flow from the veina cava (main vien going back into the heart from the body) is just veina cava valve.

Why do many veins have flap-like valves in them?

It is to allow the blood to flow in one direction - towards the heart, it prevents back flow.

prevents back flow

What do veins have that maintain unidirectional flow?

veins have valves that prevent back flow, and I believe the pressure within circulatory system prevents back flow.

Flow of blood through the hears to the lungs?

The flow of blood from the heart to the lungs and back to the heart is called pulmonary circulation.

Which structure prevents the flow of waste from the large intestine back into the small intestine?

ileocecal valve

What is pulmonary valve?

The pulmonary valve is a semilunar valve that prevents the back flow of blood back from the lungs to the right ventricle.

What is the structure that keeps blood from flowing backwards?

Tiny valves in your veins keep blood from backing up. The pumping force of your heart keeps the blood flowing forward. If a valve in your leg stops working properly, the blood seeping back causes varicose veins mainly in your legs, though can occur anywhere.

What is the flow of blood from the stomach to the heart and back to the stomach?

it just goes back
