What is more popular Percy Jackson or Harry Potter?

They are both very good stories, and both have movie versions.

Harry Potter has a more serious storyline, and the characters have more depth. The franchise has also had many more sales. There is more mystery involved, and clues to figure out. Smaller details from early in the story come back to become significant later on.

Percy Jackson is a lighter read, and contains much more humor. It is rich with Greek mythology, and Rick Riordan does a wonderful job integrating past myth into modern times. Percy has such a hard time, you can't help but root for him.

Harry also has a very hard time, what with the ministry calling him crazy, the Wizarding World thinking he's mad, and Umbridge giving him detentions because he spoke the truth. And Harry Potter is also filled with mythology, you just have to look a little closer.

Because of that, and many other reasons, Jackson is very similar to Potter. For example, their names, which usually have a very long history in myths, just overlooked by the leaders.

It also has the animals, like Ceberus, the three headed guardian dog, dragons, which have many breeds showing how much effort J K put into her books, and the Acromantula, the giant "Spiders."

And Ron is scared to death of spiders, just like Annabeth.

Trust me, they aren't so similar. Maybe Hogwards and Camp Half-blood are similar, there is Annabeth and Hermione, two wise girls, Groover and Ron, clumsy and scared of everything, Chiron and Dumbledore and the Stoll Brothers are just as Fred and George Weasley, Kronos and Lord Voldemort and so on, but those are just the characters, and the characters are everywhere the same, so it's not a big deal. The plot is same only in one thing, they both need to destroy a Kronos or Voldemort.

In my opinion Harry Potter is currently more popular.

Harry Potter has almost every one of its books redone as movies (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is coming in a two part movie 19th November 2010 (UK) and July 2011)

Harry Potter has many collectible items such as coins, wands, plates and Death Eater masks.

The Percy Jackson series (granted only being written half a decade ago) only has the first movie out and as far as I've seen not very much memorabilia in shops, but I live in the UK and the film was made in the US.

Both book sets are very good. But Harry Potter is probably still more popular.
