As there are no viruses that infect Mac OS X it does not matter which anti-virus software you choose. If you wish to scan files that you are passing onto people using the virus prone Windows operating system then the free ClamXav software (See links below) is perfectly adequate.

The best protection service that most would say is Norton Antivirus. Although, some would disagree. Norton is the most recommended. To speak from personal experience, I would use Avast Antivirus.

There are plenty of antivirus and security suite software brands for Apple MacIntosh computers, so it can be tricky to know which products are best. It may surprise some to know that one of the most consistently highest ranked antivirus programs for Mac, Zeobit, is also one of the cheapest. Kapersky Security, Norton, and McAfee are also great reliable platforms but are nearly double the cost of Zeobit.

Macs do not currently need anti-virus software of any sort. There is currently only one virus and it can only infect your computer if you are looking for an anti-virus program, so don't. If you are concerned about receiving Windows viruses in email and then passing them along to other Windows users, try ClamXAV to filter those out.

Can a Virus remove your antiVirus software?

It shouldn't, but it depends on how good your software is, and how complex the virus is. Norton are generally recognised as the best, but different software has different attributes. If you have anti-virus software and you get a virus, then it may have been out-of-date, or had a problem with it. If I were you, I'd get a mac, because not as many viruses have been developed for mac, and they're just generally good.
