First answer

Gorilla.

Second answer

Of the currently extant species, gorillas are the largest. However, the largest ape to ever walk the earth was the gigantopithecus ("giant ape"). This creature was a relative of the orangutan who, according to estimation, stood at nearly 10 feet tall and weighed 1200 lbs. The estimation is, however, based only on tooth and partial jaw bone evidence. There has never been any skeletal evidence found--such as arms and legs--to determine whether the gigantopithecus was indeed that large. It was most likely bigger than gorillas, though. The largest teeth found are over an inch across!
