1st make sure the power is turned offDisconnect one lead on primary side of transformer and using an ohm meter check for continuity. You will probably get a low ohm reading if you get no reading the windings are broken and transformer is no good2nd test using ohm meter again check for winding to ground you should get no reading. If you get a ohm value the transformer is shorted to groundRepeat these tests on secondary sideWith power on and fuse removed with a voltage meter check for power on secondary sideIf it is okay turn off power and install fuseIf fuse blows again check for shorts in circuitRemember to be careful when power is turned on
Get some resistors of known values and check your meter with them.
(to check the flow rate of water ... calculate the pressure drop
A Linear power transformer coil? use an Ohm meter and check the resistance of the coils. No resistance is an open circuit. Also check for a cross circuit from one side of the transformer to the other.
just a digital voltage meter measure at the origin, and then at the end of line
With an ohm-meter. Check for continuity in the RUN and START windings, and also from the terminals to compressor case for shorting. There should be continuity in the windings and no continuity from windings to compressor case.
Ohmmeter
Check for a tripped breaker or a blown fuse. If you have a volt meter, check to see if there is excitation voltage going to the field windings.
Usually you check mega-ohms by reading the resistance between compressor shell and the windings. There should be a large amount of resistance which means the windings are not shorted to the compressor case or shell. Use a DVM (digital volt ohm meter) to check the resistance.
If you are talking about the compressor clutch coil windings then connect one wire to from the coil to ground and the other wire to a 12-volt source, the coil will become magnetized and will be able to put up a heavy piece of metal or you can use a ohm meter as well..........

First, see if the each coil is getting the required voltage from the ignition switch (probably 12V). If they are, you can check the resistance of the coil with a simple volt meter. Should read minimal resistance. If the meter reads OL then the coil windings are open (defective/bad).

A megger is used to test the resistance of high voltage cables, insulation and motor windings. The test employs a megohm meter.

Make sure that the fuse for the 1996 Caravan is the right size and type (slo-blo or fast-blo,) A meter will be needed to check for shorts to find the problem component.
