Naturally it depends on personal opinion as to "too many", but as to the quality of the films that followed in the franchise it could be argued the Hellraiser movies have run their course after nine installments and should be stopped.
It is a matter of opinion, perhaps, but probably most men would say the "Twilight" franchise has run its course. By contrast, most women have had enough of the "Terminator" saga.

"Son of the Mask" sequel, "Cheaper by the Dozen 2" sequel, "Bewitched" remake are movies that were considered the worst, enough to be in the 2005 Razzie awards.
I await with bated breath the movies' sequel.
The Harry Potter movies were a recent sequel.

sequels
There are no announced plans for a sequel.
The Absent-Minded Professor

No, all the books and movies are done.
Hmm... I'd have to say it depends on what movie it is. Some movies can't stand to have a sequel and when one is made, it turns out to be a total failure. Other movies can have sequels, though, and the sequel can be pretty good.
Twilight and the sequel New Moon.(2)
