Agra
The city of Agra was founded by Sikander Lodi of Delhi Sultanate in 1504. He shifted his capital from Delhi to Agra. The present day Agra fort was built by the Mughals. Emperor Akbar renovated the fort with red sandstone and his grandson Shah Jahan added the pearl mosque, Khas Mahal, Shish Mahal, Diwan-i-Khas and Diwan-i-Am. Nagina Masjid was built under the reign of Aurangzeb.

Shahjahanabad was named after the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, who commissioned its construction in 1638. The city served as the new capital of the Mughal Empire, replacing Agra. Shahjahanabad is now known as Old Delhi, and it remains an important historical and cultural center in India.
Shah Jahan died on 22 January 1666 at Agra. He was the fifth Mughal Emperor. He was imprisoned by his son Aurangzeb in 1658 at Agra fort where he spent 8 years in confinement. He died at the age of 74 after a reign of 30 years.
Shah Jahan, the Mughal emperor who commissioned the Taj Mahal, lived in various palaces and forts throughout his reign. His primary residence was in the Red Fort in Delhi, while he also spent time in Agra Fort, where the Taj Mahal is located. In his later years, he was imprisoned by his son Aurangzeb in the Agra Fort.
