The SI base unit for mass is the kilogram (kg). The gram is a submultiple of the kilogram.
The SI standard unit for mass is the kilogram. It is also the standard unit for weight measurement in the metric system.

The kilogram is the SI (International System) unit of mass. See links to the left for more information about all SI units

Some other units of mass are: Gram, g (1 kg = 1000 grams; 1 gram = 0.001 kg) Milligram, mg (1 kg = 1,000,000 mg; 1 mg = 0.000001 kg) Pound, lb (1 kg = 2.20462 lb; 1 lb = 0.45359 kg) Ounce, oz (1 kg = 35.2739 oz; 1 oz = 0.028349 kg; 1 lb = 16 oz) Tonne, t or Mt, also metric ton (1 kg = 0.001 T; 1 T = 1000 kg) Ton, also short ton, (1 kg = 0.001102 t; 1 T = 907.1847 kg; 1 T = 2000 lb)
The SI units of mass is the kilogram.
The unit of mass in the SI is the kilogram (symbol kg).

The International Prototype of Kilogram is a cylinder made from the alloy platinum-iridium 10 %.
Grams (if using the centimeter-gram-second metric system) or kilograms (if using the meter-kilogram-second metric system). Both are considered acceptable in most cases.

The official unit for mass in SI is the kilogram.

It is represented by an international prototype from an alloy platinum-iridium 10 % stored in Paris.

Grams, micrograms, milligrams, etc. are submultiples.
The SI unit for mass is the kilogram, and is one of the very few units (perhaps the only one?) still dependent on a physical item as its reference. (The International Prototype Kilogram).

[In metric systems other than SI, the gram is also used.] The gram is only an "accepted" unit in SI.

When we understand what mass is, maybe we'll be able to advance this item.
