You are going to think I'm crazy, but I asked the same thing of the Gas Company. Natural gas has no smell. and therefore can be dangerous for obvious reasons.

The smell you refer to is C-H4, and is called "STINKUM". It is that horrid, dead rat type smell that lets you know that your gas is leaking.
