Thaddeus Stevens
Thaddeus Stevens was one of the Radical Republicans after the Civil War. He was a prominent leader in Congress who advocated for equal rights for African Americans and strong measures against the Southern states that had seceded from the Union.

The political problems of reconstructing the Union were based on radical Republicans who wanted to place all blame for the Civil War on the South. This was very political as the radical Republicans wanted to make the rebellious South "pay" for this horrible war that devastated the nation.
During and after the US Civil War, the Republican Party became the dominant party of the United States. It was, however, a divided party. Lincoln had to balance the Radical Republicans, with more moderate Republicans and the War Democrats.
Well, the Democratic party originally had the most influence, but after the war, the Republicans took over. One group of radical republicans wanted the south to suffer for having seceded, thankfully they did not succeed.
Radical Reconstruction was the imposition of military government in the South after the Civil War, in order to punish the former Confederate states and enforce the abolishment of slavery. Abraham Lincoln disagreed with the plans of the Radical Republicans in Congress, who instituted the military control of the South after his assassination,
