Positively positive
If you're talking about a battery... The + is positive, sometimes red, and connects to something with power such as your alternator. The - is negative, sometimes black, and connects to the ground such as the block or chassis.
Red connects to the Positive + post and black connects to the Negative - post.
get a multi meter that reads dc voltage & touch the black (negative -) wire to the negative battery post & the red (positive +) wire to the positive battery post with car running. car off is battery voltage, car on is alternator voltage.
battery and or alternator are shot, check alternator by starting the car, and removing either the positive or negative battery cable,,, if the vehicle continues to run the alternator is good.
An alternator has diodes which transform ac voltage to dc voltage so that the battery gets negative and positive current on its poles thus making the battery to be charged.
You do not connect any wire from the alternator to the starter. The positive wire from the alternator should run to the positive on the battery, and the negative wire (if equipped) should run to the engine block (or any suitable ground). Most alternators are already grounded by the bolts holding them to the engine, but some do have a negative wire.
No, not the battery. But anything that has a diode, transistor or is in any other way dependent on polarity may be fried... including your alternator.
1. Remove the bolt retaining the negative battery cable to the alternator adjusting bracket, if so equipped. If not, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. 2. Disconnect the cable from the positive battery terminal. 3. Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors from the rear of the alternator. 4. Remove the bolt retaining the alternator to the adjusting bracket. 5. Remove the alernator pivot bolt and remove the alternator from the vehicle. 6. Installation is reverse of removal, noting the following: 7. Reconnect the positive battery cable before reattaching the negative cable at the alternator bracket. 8. Adjust the alternator drive belt.
Disconnect the battery negative terminal. Remove serpentine belt. Remove bolts to alternator and positive cable at alternator and harness. Remove alternator. Reverse procedure to install.

positive to positive
run it and then disconnect the negative wire from the battery if alternator dies its bad.
