an electrons and protons were theorised in the late 1800's and proved shortly after, so its not those,

most recent discovery's have been Quarks, Leptons, and Gauge Bosons. to my knowledge these were all theorised around the 1960's and have pretty much all been officially discovered now. the most recent being the Tau Neutrino in 2000. still a few of the Theorised particles to find though, with the Higgs-Boson being the most famous of the elusive particles. now that the LHC is completed, and only repair bills getting in the way, hopefully there should be some new ones to add to the list pretty soon

As of June 2014, the most recently discovered atom is Ununseptium. It has an atomic number of 117 and is not fully recognized. The most recently discovered and recognized atom is Livermorium.
