One of the highest values held in many parts of the world today is democracy. True democracy means that the city belongs to those people who live there, just as other cities around the world belong to their respective citizens - without concern for their religious beliefs. Of course, for real democracy to exist, the population must not be established by the forcible removal of the people of one faith, or the politically motivated settlement of people of another faith. In a democratically constituted Jerusalem, the rights of each faith can be protected and each would own the holy sites important to that faith. There is no need for Jerusalem to 'belong' to any one faith.

There is no one religion in Jerusalem. There are three main religions prevalent in Jerusalem, which are Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
There are 3 major religions in Jerusalem : Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
Judaism and Christianity both do.
There is no such thing as the "Jerusalem Religion". Jerusalem is a city, not a set of beliefs. Although Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all hold Jerusalem to be sacred, none of these religions was founded in Jerusalem.
All three monotheistic religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) have important holy sites in Jerusalem.
Thomas A. Idinopulos has written: 'Jerusalem' -- subject(s): Religion, History, Jerusalem in Islam, Jerusalem in Christianity, Jerusalem in Judaism 'Betrayal of spirit' -- subject(s): Judaism, Relations, Christianity, Christianity and antisemitism, Holocaust, Jewish (1939-1945), Antisemitism, Christianity and other religions, History
I wouldn't call it the birthplace of religion, but Jerusalem has played an important role in 3 major religions, which are (in chronological order) Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. None of these religions actually were born in Jerusalem.
Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Though Islam doesn't view Jerusalem in the same manner as Judaism or Christianity. For Judaism and Christianity, Jerusalem is place of the world's foundation and the city where G-d's presence once rested. Islam's holy city is actually Mecca, in Saudi Arabia. Islam's claim to Jerusalem is political, not religious (or at least not at all in the way Christians and Jews view Jerusalem).
For Judaism and Christianity it is Jerusalem. For Islam it is Mecca.
Christianity originated in Jerusalem, in the Middle East (Israel). Gradually, however, Christianity became a religion independent of Judaism, and power shifted to Rome.
