There are a number of species that utilize electricity in order to hunt their prey or to defend them selves.

Electric eels living in freshwater are quite amazing and can give shocks of several hundred volts.

Some flat fish living in Salt Water does also have this ability but their power is not comparable to that of the Electric eel.

In fact all living species does conduct electricity one way or another.

All brains in living creatures function by sending electric signals back and forth.

When you read this, the light is interpreted by eyes and in turn transformed into an electric signal that is further processed by the brain.

When you decide to type an answer here on WikiAnswer, it is electrical signals from your brain that makes your arms, hands and fingers move.

Did you know that the Human Brain actually uses up approx 30% of all the energy provided by food :-)

Most of which is transformed into electricity to keep our "computer" running.

Does water conduct an electric current?

Yes it does.

Can an ice cube conduct an electric current?

No, ice cubes are poor conductors of electricity because they are made mostly of water, which is a non-conductive material. For an object to conduct electricity, it needs to have free-moving electrons, which ice does not possess.

Does silicon conduct electric current?

Silicon is a semiconductor and can conduct electric current but not as well as metals. Its conductivity can be increased by adding impurities, known as doping, to create components like diodes and transistors in electronic devices.

Why do ionic crystals conduct electric current in liquid phase or when dissolved in water but do not conduct electric current in the solid phase?

because of the gravity or Magnetricity

Why do ionic crystals conduct electric current in the liquid phase or when dissolved in water but do not conduct electric current in the solid phase?

because when the ions can move around freely, they can conduct electricity better

Can electric current pass through alcohol Explain?

Yes, alcohol is a liquid and has delocalised electrons which can carry the electrical current. Edited: Seriously? Unless there are impurities in the alcohol that are electrolytes, alcohol will NOT conduct an electric current. Alcohols are considered as NON ELECTROLYTES, as they do not ionize and thus will not conduct a current. (Dr.J.)

What would you expect to conduct an electric current?

the metal

When can an ionic compound conduct electric current?

An ionic compound can conduct electric current when it is dissolved in water or molten (liquid) form, allowing the ions to move freely and carry charge. In solid form, ionic compounds are not conductive because the ions are held in a fixed position in the crystal lattice.
