Which state has a longer border with Mexico, Texas or New Mexic?
federal issue
The US state of New Mexico, is indeed a state and not a territory. It has an eastern border with Texas and a western border with Arizona. It also has a problematic border with the nation of Mexico. The land New Mexico in located on was first claimed by Spain in her early days of exploration in what can now be called the southwestern part of the US. Later, Mexico's independence from Spain, gave it the same territories Spain once controlled. The result of the 1846 Mexican War, gave this area as a cession from Mexico to the US. All in all, this territory had four "claims" of ownership:1. American Native Tribes 2. Spain 3. Mexico, and 4. the US.
In addition to the U.S. border patrols, the Mexican government has border patrols guarding Mexico's side of the border.
