By the late 17th century, a type of impromptu satire became popular. One form known as flying consisted of satirists. Court satirists such as Scroope and Mulgrave performed in an old high flying type if flyting known as impromptu. This is a sometimes obscene form of the art exchanged between acquaintances and social equals.
