US President Ulysses S. Grant was diagnosed with throat cancer, not cancer of the jaw. In 1884, he was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the throat. Grant underwent various treatments, including surgery and radiation therapy, but unfortunately, he passed away just a few days after completing his memoirs in 1885.
The jaw is a hinged joint but is special in allowing us to move it in several directions and the ability to use our top jaw as an extention of the bottom allowing us to open our mouths further.
