The names of the wisemen are not mentioned in the Bilbe and the number 3 is not given either. The only detail mentioned is the gifts they brought: gold, frankincense and myrrh. Since there are 3 gifts, its logical to assume there were 3 wisemen. But the story is a symbolic one and the gifts symbolise that Jesus was to be king (gold), divine (frankincense) and would suffer (myrrh).
They "Magi" are commonly known as Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar, though they are not named in any of the four common gospels; the gifts they brought for Jesus (as detailed in Matthew's Gospel) are:-
The "wise men" are more likely to have been foreign diplomats than great sages, or even simply travellers - considered exotic/mysterious/wise for their "Eastern" appearance. It is unlikely that they knew each other well; at the time, lone travellers would often form groups for company and safety.

This is a part of the Christmas story that often gets confused. The Bible states that the wise men brought three gifts, gold, frankincense, and myrrh, so people automatically assume that there were three wise men who each brought a gift. However, the bible does not say how many wise men there were, so there could have been two or two hundred of them! Who's to say that they all thought to bring gifts? Maybe only one of them brought all three gifts!
Since it does not even say how many wise men were there, none of them were named, thus, it is impossible to answer this question other than to state "Who knows?"
The date was never recorded, so it is not known for certain. They were afraid of King Herod so they came secretly and left soon after.
