Excess of melanin in skin cause the darkening or dark spots in skin. Such situation is termed as hyper-pigmentation. Lack of melanin in skin causes the white patch in skin this thing is termed as depigmentation or hypo-pigmentation in skin. There is more than one skin condition that causes white patch on the skin.
