Rastafari is based on Judeo-Christianity and has the same God. The Rastafari differ from most Judeo-Christians in that most Rastafari believe that Haile Selassie of Ethiopia was (is?) an incarnation of God and/or the Messiah.

∙ 10y agoThe Tetragrammaton of the Jewish and Christian faiths -- YHVH -- is usually rendered in a few ways: Yahveh (Jewish), Yahweh (Catholic/Orthodox), and Jehovah (protestant). There is a linguistic connection between the "y" and the "j" letters, and in developing their own unique "call name" for God, followers of Rastafari have abbreviated God's Name to "Jah".
Because Rasta believers see Haile Selassie as the second incarnation of God, you are apt to hear them exhort "Jah Rastafari!"
