In chapter one you meet the narrator, ponyboy, who lacks common sense but is very smart. You also meet his oldest brother, Darry, who is the head of the house since their parents died. Sodapop is the middle child who is charming and cheerful.

The Outsiders is a book written by S.E. Hinton, when she was only 15, finished when she was 16. The book follows the story of Ponyboy Curtis, when he is 14, among the gang, of greasers, and their rival groups, Socs (pronounced So-shiz).
