The Nationwide Tour would be the tour before the PGA Tour, the top 25 on the Nationwide tour at the end of the season win PGA Tour cards.
The 2012 PGA Tour consisted of a total of 45 official money events running from January to November. John Hun was the official top golfer on the US PGA tour in 2012.

He has some status. He is 139th. The top 125 has full status, but 125-150 has some. He has veteran status because he has made 150 cuts in his career. He also has past winner status because he has won on tour.
The top 25 in earnings are given PGA memberships for the following season. Additionally, any player who wins three Nationwide tournaments in one season is promoted to the PGA tour for the remainder of the season. However, if that player is not in the top 25 in earnings at the end of the season they must go to qualifying school to earn a spot on the PGA Tour for the following season.
When a player earns conditional status on the PGA Tour, they are able to play in all Nationwide Tour events and PGA Tour events which have larger fields or the ones where the top players do not play in. They can usually play the fall series events.

They have to hope someone decides not to attend a tournament.Starting in 2013, players ranked 125 - 150 will compete with players ranked in the top 25 from the Web.com tour to be granted provisional status on the PGA Tour. Provisional status grants the player the opportunity to play if the field needs to fill out the roster. They can also participate in Monday qualifying and apply for sponsor exemptions.
He will lose his tour card because he finished outside the Top 125 on the PGA Money List. He can however apply for a medical exemption which would allow him to hold onto his card for next year
For the whole season, players compete on the PGA Tour only for points towards the Fed Ex Cup. The top 125 qualify for the 1st event, points can be won at it, then the new top 100 qualify for the second, points can be won, then the new top 70 qualify for the third event, points can be won, then the top 30 qualify for the Tour Championship, then the Fed Ex Cup is won by the points leader.
