Angkor Wat is a Buddhist temple in Angkor, Cambodia. The Khmer King Suryavarman II (1113 C.E-1150 C.E) constructed Angkor Wat as a Hindu temple in the early 12th century C.E. Angkor Wat continued to serve as a Hindu temple until the late 13th century. When the Buddhist Srindravarman (ruler from 1295-1308) took power of the Khmer kingdom he converted the temple of Angkor Wat into a Buddhist temple.
Angkor Wat was abandoned for the most part in the 16th century. In the 20th century the temple was mostly restored. Tourists from all over the world visit Angkor Wat, as it remains standing to this day.
